Make Every Day a Mandela Day / Support MES: Mould

Make Every Day a Mandela Day / Support MES: Mould Empower Serve

Once known for its slogan “67 Minutes of Service for Mandela Day”, in 2011 the Nelson Mandela Foundation introduced “Make Every Day A Mandela Day”. Instead of short-lived charity work, the initiative hopes to see long-term, collaborative initiatives in honour of Madiba’s legacy.

Our work with @mesorgsa honours this approach – building a long-term relationship with this organisation in a way that is sustainable and has real, measurable outcomes.

MES has a host of activities happening this Mandela Day and throughout the year. Visit their website to see how you can get involved further, or contact cptfundraising@mes.org.za.

About MES Cape Town - Mould, Empower, Serve

MES Cape Town is a key partner in the mission to sustainably rehome the homeless across various City Improvement Districts. Their extensive network of outreach and social relief programs provides the vital reach and resources our CID needs. Additionally, their responsive help desk is always available to assist with the immediate and short-term needs of the homeless and unemployed community.

We work closely with MES to identify individuals for casual labour on specific projects. Their team actively scouts promising candidates, placing them with us each week on a probationary basis as one of our on-the-ground workers, fondly known as our “Green Ants”. For those who show dedication, we offer pathways for them to become supervisors and advance their training, making them valuable members of our workforce in a way that allows us to support their growth.

To ensure the funds generated through our partnership are used effectively, we pay stipends directly to MES, which helps cover their living expenses sustainably throughout their stay.

A safety tip this winter - in particular in the darker, early hours of the morning and at night. Protect yourself and your vehicle on the go or when parked, and avoid Smash & Grab.

We love our community - however, crime is a very real situation in South Africa, in particular in urban hubs. You can take these precautions to avoid putting yourself and your belongings at risk:

✅ Close your windows when you park your car

✅ Leave all belongings out of site, in particular wallets, laptops, phones, expensive sunglasses or jewellery

✅ Be mindful of your surroundings when stationary in traffic and keep your window closed (or only slightly cracked) and door locked

✅ Consider tinting your windows and/or adding smash-and-grab film

✅ When driving, leave enough room between you and the car in front of you

Report any crimes to SAPS on 10111 or public safety incidents to our CID 24-hr control room on 021 565 0900.

Our Wynberg team have been busy as always and we h $Our Wynberg team have been busy as always and we have an update from our managers to share regarding our new law enforcement officers in the area and other positive developments: Recently, we have seen the introduction of 16 Law Enforcement Officers being deployed into the Wynberg CBD. These officers will be patrolling the CBD and policing a range of City By-Law infractions. We thank the Mayor, Ald. Geordin Hill-Lewis, and Ald. JP Smith for their efforts in getting this deployment into Wynberg and trust that residents will give them a warm welcome.
