Maynardville Open-air Theatre

TWELFTH NIGHT - 21 January – 25 February 2017
reimagined underneath an African sky for local audiences

Artscape Theatre in association with The Maynardville Theatre Trust and The City of Cape Town presents an adaptation of the romantic Shakespearean comedy, Twelfth Night. Starring David Johnson and Elizabeth Akudugu, this uniquely African inspired version is directed by Geoffrey Hyland.

The Annual Shakespeare-in-the-Park productions have been proudly overseen by Artscape during the last 40 years, aiding in its growth with the same commitment that the founders, Cecelia Sonnenberg and Rene Ahrenson showed upon its inception in 1956.

ROMEO and JULIET - 22 January - 26 February 2017
Sundays only

Cape Town City Ballet presents the ageless story of Romeo and Juliet which resounds in the new choreography of Robin van Wyk, created especially for the romantic Maynardville Open-Air Theatre. Told in timeless classical style, this romantic ballet will transport the viewer into a realm of family dispute with a tragic, but uplifting conclusion.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!
